You are cordially invited to a unique masterclass entitled 'Faces of sadness. Depression in its various facets\", which will take place 7 June 2025 at 11:30 am<\/strong> w the 3D Hall of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Wroc\u0142aw<\/strong>. The lecture will be given by Mr. Professor<\/strong> Dr Jan Chodkiewicz<\/strong> - a prominent specialist in clinical psychology, psychotherapy and addiction psychology. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organiser of the event<\/strong> is the Institute of Psychology University of Vocational Training in Wroc\u0142aw<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Depression - the disease of civilisation of our time<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The modern world presents us with numerous challenges, and depression is becoming one of society's most pressing problems. This disease does not only affect individuals <\/strong>- affects entire societies, changing their functioning and psychological safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Depression can cause:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • psychosocial factors - chronic stress, low self-esteem, insecurity, low level of social skills;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • biological factors - hormonal disorders, genetic predisposition;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • sociological factors - difficult family situation, poor financial situation, alcohol abuse, violence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    The multifaceted nature of the causes means that depression remains one of the greatest health challenges of our time<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    During the lecture Professor Jan Chodkiewicz will address the key issues of the<\/strong>, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • Biological, psychological and social causes of depression;<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • recognising the different facets of depression,<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • specific problems associated with depression in men,<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • effective methods of psychotherapy for people struggling with depression.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      The presentation will not only provide an opportunity to expand knowledge, but also to gain a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of the disease and the social challenges of depression in a rapidly changing world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Who are you, Professor Jan Chodkiewicz, Professor of the University of \u0141\u00f3d\u017a?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Professor Jan Chodkiewicz is a respected clinical psychologist, specialist in addiction psychotherapy and certified cognitive-behavioural psychotherapist. For almost 30 years, he has combined his scientific activity with his therapeutic practice, helping addicts and their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      On a day-to-day basis, Mr Professor works with the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychopathology at the Institute of Psychology, University of \u0141\u00f3d\u017a. His areas of expertise include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        \n
      • addiction psychology,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • the issue of depression in men,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • cognitive behavioural therapy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        The Professor's scientific output includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        • Co-author and author of numerous books, including:\n
            \n
          • \"<\/em>Bouncing off the bottom? The role of quality of life in the course and outcome of treatment for alcohol dependence\"<\/em> (\u0141\u00f3d\u017a, 2012),<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • \"<\/em>Alcohol addiction. Faces of the problem\"<\/em> (Warsaw, 2020);<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • More than 100 scientific articles and chapters in monographs;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Participation in numerous research projects funded by PARPA, NCPU and NCBiR.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            He is also an active member of numerous scientific organisations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            • Polish Psychological Association,<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Polish Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies,<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Polish Society for Research on Addictions,<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Section on Addictions of the Polish Psychiatric Association.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
