Farewell to Professor Mieczyslaw Goc.
It is with deep regret that we announce that Prof. Dr. Mieczysław Goc (1951-2025) passed away on 27 August 2025. - a respected scientist, expert and practitioner, and one of the highest authorities on forensic science, with a particular focus on handwriting and document examination.
Scientist and practitioner
For more than five decades, the professor combined academic activity with expert practice, setting new directions in the development of this interdisciplinary field. He was the author and editor of numerous scientific publications, including the highly regarded book Forensic Science. Or about modern methods of proving crimes, as well as initiating the implementation of modern technologies in document expertise.
Functions and organisational activities
He held many important academic and organisational positions - was Head of the Forensic Science Laboratory at the University of Rzeszow, Professor at the Institute of Legal Sciences of the UR College of Social Sciences and President of the Polish Forensic Society. From 1997 to 2002, he headed the Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police Headquarters, and previously the forensic science division at the Police Training Centre in Legionowo.
His scientific and implementation achievements have contributed significantly to the modernization of document expertise methods and improving the quality of forensic laboratories in Poland. Professor was also an active organiser of scientific life, initiating international cooperation and participating in the preparation of the major congresses and forensic symposia.
Heritage and memory
In May 2025, the scientific community honoured him with the jubilee of 50 years of scientific work. The memory of Professor Goc - his achievements, research passion and extraordinary contribution to the development of Polish criminology - will remain forever in the hearts of colleagues, students and friends.
