"The role of NGOs in the search for missing persons" - meeting with Ms Anna Jurkiewicz, President of the ITAKA Foundation

As early as Saturday 26 April 2025, at 11:30am a unique guest lecture aimed at students of the Higher School of Management "Education" in Wrocław will take place in the Auditorium of the Higher School of Vocational Education. The guest speaker will be Ms Anna Jurkiewicz President of the Board of the ITAKA Foundation - Searching for Missing People Centre, one of the key NGOs in Poland dealing with disappearances and support for their families. The topic of the lecture will be: "The role of non-governmental organisations in the search for missing persons on the example of the activities of the ITAKA Foundation"..

This meeting is a unique opportunity to find out, how organisations supporting the families of missing persons function, the challenges faced by those involved and the importance of the role of psychological support in such situations.

The ITAKA Foundation and its mission to support the families of missing persons

The ITAKA Foundation has for years played a key role in the search for missing persons and in educational and prevention activities. The organisation cooperates with the police, the Ministry of the Interior and Administration and many other state institutions to more effectively prevent disappearances and support the families of missing persons.

As part of its activities, the Foundation operates a helpline, organises social action and media campaigns, and is involved in shaping public policy on the rights of missing persons and their relatives. Many of these activities have become possible thanks to the commitment and vision of Ms Anna Jurkiewicz.

Who is Anna Jurkiewicz?

Ms Anna Jurkiewicz has headed the ITAKA Foundation - Searching for Missing People Centre since December 2012. He actively represents the organisation internationally, including in debates organised by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. Under her leadership, the Foundation develops cooperation both at home and abroad, constantly raising the standards of support for the families of missing persons. Ms Anna Jurkiewicz's commitment, experience and vast knowledge make her the lecture will not only be a source of reliable knowledge, but also an inspiration for reflection on the social aspects of disappearances and the role of psychological support in crisis situations.

As early as 12 April 2025, in the Auditorium of the School of Management 'Education', a unique guest lecture will be held pt. "The functioning of the EU banking system in the context of globalisation in terms of economic security: current status and prospects". The meeting will begin at 12.45pm and last until 1.45pm.

The lecture will be given by Prof. Dr. Igor Britchenko - a prominent economist and specialist in economic security. The lecture will provide an excellent opportunity to learn about the current challenges facing the European Union's banking system in a dynamically changing economic and geopolitical reality.

An authority with an international track record

Professor Britchenko is a renowned researcher with an impressive international record. He holds professorial positions at universities in Slovakia, Ukraine and Bulgaria, and he earned degrees and diplomas in 11 European countries, among others. in Poland, Greece, Germany i United Kingdom.

His research interests include economics, finance, banking, marketing, management, security and international relations. He is the author of more than 500 scientific publicationsincluding over 150 works published in EU countries, 50 monographs (of which 9 individual) and 13 academic textbooks.

Prof. Britchenko's output is widely cited in international scientific databases such as Scopus, ResearchGate, Google Scholar, Publons or Semantic Scholar.

As early as 12 April 2025, in the Auditorium of the School of Management 'Education', there will be a guest lecture entitled 'The origins of forensic science: people, dates, events'. The meeting will begin at 11.30am and last until 12.30pm. The event is aimed at students of the University of Vocational Training in Wrocław, especially those interested in law, forensic and security sciences.

The lecture will be given by Prof. Henryk Malewski (Hendryk Malevski) - a distinguished forensic scientist and academic with an impressive record of research and teaching. The meeting will be an excellent opportunity to learn about the origins of forensic science and hear about its breakthroughs from one of the most important figures in the field.

Who is Professor Henryk Malewski?

Born in 1953 in Vilnius, Professor Henryk Malewski graduated in law from Vilnius University. He began his career as an expert at the Forensic Laboratory of the Lithuanian Interior Ministry. Over the following years, he developed his scientific and teaching activities at a number of universities, including. Michael Romer University, Šiauliai University, Pomeranian Academy in Słupsk and in Police Academy in Szczytno.

He is the author and co-author of more than 100 scientific publications, monographs and textbooks, and promoter of numerous doctoral and master's theses. He actively participates in international conferences and serves on scientific and editorial boards of journals in Poland and abroad. For years, he has co-organised the prestigious conference "Forensic science and forensics: science, study, practice"..

It was no ordinary day at the University - the elections for the Student Council of the School of Vocational Training had just concluded. Students have clearly identified the people they want to entrust their vote to and responsibility for issues that matter both on a daily basis and in the future. From now on, the official representatives of the academic community begin their activities, enjoying the full confidence of their colleagues and taking on the mission of actively contributing to the life of the university from within.

Newly established Local Government takes on the challenges of building an engaged community, organising social and cultural events and creating a space where every student can feel part of the academic community.

Thanks to the energy, creativity and determination of the student representatives, the coming months promise to be a a time of intense action and positive change. WSKZ students at the Talent Days job fair in Wroclaw!

On 27 March, students from the College of Vocational Training took part in the Talent Days - the largest job and career development fair in Poland. This unique event brought together hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of participants, offering a unique opportunity to meet potential employers, industry experts and representatives of reputable companies.

Our students actively participated in lectures, workshops i networking sessionsgaining valuable insights into career paths and the labour market. For many, it was also an opportunity to make their first professional contacts and find out about current internship and job offers.

We are convinced that the knowledge gained at our university and the information and contacts acquired during the Talent Days Job Fair will translate into the future careers of our students.

New perspectives for WSKZ students and staff

We are pleased to announce that 20 March 2025. a meeting was held between the Vice-Dean of the College of Vocational Education for Student Affairs, Dr Aneta Kazanecka, and the Director of the Office for Cooperation with Higher Education Institutions, Tomasz Janos, and the Deputy Director of the Office, Monika Sochacka. Discussions focused on the broad possibilities and potential forms of cooperationwhich can significantly support the development of our students and academic staff. Importantly, representatives of the Office enthusiastically accepted the invitation to the inauguration of the academic year at the College of Vocational Training in Wrocław.

Student Activity Fund (FAST)

This fund allows obtaining funding from the municipal budget for study circles, student organisations and groups from universities located in Wrocław. The project is open to initiatives supporting the development of academic entrepreneurship, innovation, creativity and academic excellence.

Competition "Wrocław Magnolia"

The competition is aimed at graduates of Wrocław's universities (both public and non-public). Its aim is to honour the best master's theses that deal with improving the quality of life of Wrocław's inhabitants, such as public health, environmental protection or green space management.

Student Scholarship Fund

The programme is aimed at students in their third year and above of unified master's studies, second year of first-cycle studies and second-cycle studies (full-time studies). The main objective is to provide financial support to students who have been given the opportunity to study at foreign universities.

• the university is currently waiting for the granting of ECHE cards by the European Commission, which will create additional opportunities for participation in international exchanges.

Promotion of academic events

Working together for development

Study circles, student groups and tutors are encouraged to actively engage with the programmes available to support academic initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity to develop projects and create innovative activities together. Lecture by Dr. Krzysztof Śmiszek for students of WSKZ

On Sunday, 16 March 2025, from 12:00 to 13:00, an open lecture was held for students of the Higher School of Vocational Education in Wrocław. The guest of the event was Dr Krzysztof Śmiszek - lawyer, advocate, doctor of legal sciences and experienced academic lecturer. The topic of the meeting was: The European Union - developments, challenges, prospects, threats.

Expert in European law

Dr Śmiszek specialises in issues relating to the European Union and the protection of human rights. In 2016, he obtained a doctorate in jurisprudence with a specialisation in European law, defending a dissertation entitled 'European Law'. The European standard of equality and Polish law. The substantive and institutional aspect. He has also been qualified as a barrister since 2021.

Key issues covered in the lecture

The lecture discussed the key challenges facing the European Union. The speaker addressed, among other issues:

• EU priorities in economic and social policy;
• necessary institutional reforms;
• ways of responding to the migration crisis;
• the importance of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights in the context of the protection of human rights.

Take part in the Student Scientific Conference "Forensic science and forensic expertology: current status and development perspectives", organised as part of the 21st International Congress "Forensic science and forensic expertology: science, studies, practice"!

The conference will take place 18-19 September 2025 at the European Solidarity Centre in Gdansk.

The guest of honour at the conference will be Prof. Doctor Habilitated Doctor Honoris Causa multi Brunon Holyst - Consultant of the College of Vocational Training in Wrocław - outstanding expert in the field of forensic science, criminology and victimology. He gave lectures as visiting professor in many countries and is a member of numerous international scientific committees.

He has authored more than 1,250 publications, including 80 books and academic textbooks, which have been published in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, China, Germany, Ukraine, Russia and Nigeria, among others.

Brunon Holyst is a distinguished full professor, postdoctoral fellow and honorary doctor of the University of Bialystok and Nasarawa State University in Keffi. In recognition of his achievements, Keffi University awarded him the title of honorary professor and established the Institute of European Studies named after him. In addition, he is the founder of the Polish Society of Forensic Science, Honorary President of the Polish Society of Mental Hygiene and President of the Polish Society of Suicidology.
